A swift response to the Bewdley Floods
Located in beautiful Bewdley, near the River Severn, are the Citibase offices (owned by NewFlex). This area is the gateway to the Wyre Forest national nature reserve and a popular tourist hot spot, known for the Bewdley bridge.
The River Severn is a stunning feature of the town but it’s prone to flooding which damages local homes and businesses. The town has flood defences ready when the river peaks and the barriers need to be put in place to protect local properties.
In February 2022, NewFlex called us to say that the river level was about to breach the banks due to heavy continuous rain from Storm Eunice, and they needed our help to activate the flood plan immediately.
What we did before the flood
We headed to the site and immediately jumped into action:
Lifting furniture to higher levels
Taking up all carpet tiles
Disconnecting electrical appliances
Evacuating the building
Putting flood barriers in place
Then it was a waiting game. The following morning the banks burst as predicted and the water rose just below the window level of the building.
The following morning, the water had dispersed, and access was granted to inspect the damages.
What we did after the flood
Engineers were quickly dispatched to help with the clean-up operation:
Removing all water
Checking electrics had not been affected
Reinstating communications and IT
Installing dehumidifiers to help the drying out process
Removing all flood defenses
Sanitising all rooms on the ground floor
Replacing removed furniture
Quick thinking and speedy action saved the day.
Our client was extremely grateful for our swift help – protecting their employees, preserving their equipment and limiting damages.
This meant that tenants could get back to work with minimum disruption.
We’re now working with NewFlex to provide bespoke flood proofing solutions and mitigate floods for the future.
